  Here are some top interesting facts regarding the Alps mountain,The Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain range system that lies entirely in Europe, and stretching approximately 1,200 kilometres across eight Alpine countries: France, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.

1, In summer people, come here to sightsee, as the picturesque mountains make a wonderful backdrop. In summer activities such as hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering and paragliding are popular. The alpine lakes are also fun for swimming if you’re brave enough that is, most of them are freezing cold!

2, In most regions of the Alps from December to April, winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and tobogganing are extremely popular. Sounds fun!

3, The highest peak in the Alps is Mont Blanc at 4810 meters (15,782 feet). Mont Blanc (French) or Monte Blanco (Italian) means White Mountain.  The mountain itself attracts many visitors from all over the world as it is the tallest mountain in the Alps and also in Western Europe. The town next to Mont Blanc, Chamonix, was the site of the first-ever Winter Olympics.

4, The Alps are home to 13,000 species of vegetation and 30,000 species of wildlife, many of which are native to the Alps. Can you imagine that? These numbers are huge! The southern side of the mountain range is more fertile and the warm season lasts longer there, as it is protected from northern winds and snowstorms.

5, Do you know when and where did the name of the Alps come from? If you are an English speaking person then it’s easy for you. But as for the rest of us, it’s not so easy question. The roots of “the Alps” stretches back into the 1590s and the first widely used phrase to describe any high mountain was “alp”. It literally means any high, snow-capped mountain.
